Alexander Yannai

Alexander Yannai
(fl. 2nd-1st cent BCE)
   King of Judea and high priest (103-76 BCE). He added the coastal region to his kingdom. During his reign the Pharisees rebelled against him for violating Pharisaic law concerning Temple practice. A massacre took place and many leading Pharisees went into exile.
